Manchester City have suffered a major injury blow with Ederson set for a spell on the sidelines. The keeper went off injured during City’s 1-all draw with Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday. Reports indicate that City’s number one keeper faces a month on the sidelines after Sunday’s game.
Manchester City’s number-one keeper injured himself in a challenge with Darwin Nunez at the beginning of the second half of Sunday’s match. A poor Nathan Ake backpass had sold Ederson short and Liverpool’s striker seized upon the mistake before being clattered by City’s keeper. The resulting challenge gave Jurgen Klopp’s side a penalty which was dispatched by Alexis MacAllister.
Ederson would only stay on the pitch for a few minutes after the penalty. The Brazilian appeared to pick up a thigh injury. Stefan Ortega replaced the Brazilian keeper in goal following his challenge on Nunez. The German keeper put in an admirable display when he came on against Liverpool.
Alex James has reported for Manchester Evening News that City’s number-one keeper will be out for a month. Furthermore, James reports that Ederson is most likely to return for the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals. That game is set to take place on April 9/10.
Ederson will miss this weekend’s FA Cup clash with Newcastle. Following that there is an international break before Manchester City takes on Arsenal at the Etihad at the end of the month. It remains to be seen if City’s number keeper can return in time to face Mikel Arteta’s side.
