Fabrizio Romano’s report that Manchester City have finally officially approached Chelsea to sign Enzo Fernandez does not come as a surprise. It has been a move that has been on the cards for some time now. Signing Enzo Fernandez could be the final piece of Manchester City’s summer transfer window jigsaw puzzle. Enzo Maresca’s squad does need another midfielder and the Argentinian midfielder would add leadership and quality in possession to City’s midfield mix.

There is also no doubt that Enzo Fernandez is a divisive and controversial character. He does court controversy with his antics on the pitch. The racism and homophobic chant controversy that the Argentinian midfielder was involved in after Argentina’s Copa America win in 2024 is a stain on the Chelsea midfielder. However, despite this, Enzo Maresca has managed Enzo Fernandez at Chelsea and the Manchester City manager believes that he can be a strong addition to his squad. Time will tell if that is the right decision provided of course that City do sign Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea.

Manchester City have made the least surprising move of the summer by making their approach to sign Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea. It is a move that has seemed on the cards for some time. It now remains to be seen if the controversial midfielder does become a member of Enzo Maresca’s squad.

  1. As you say Adam “least surprising” apart from Allan who I thought we had already signed 3 weeks ago and the Relief of Mafeking it is right up there.

    1. The Allan signing I’m excited about. The unknown about him is intriguing so I’m looking forward to seeing him play.

      1. Although that brief glimpse of McAidoo against Palace when he cut through their defence before unleashing his powerful shot just wide does the same for me as well. He has got less tattoos though!!

        1. McAidoo will get minutes as well and opportunities I believe. Plenty of chances for him in the cup matches and other matches.
