Manchester City’s wonderboy Phil Foden provided two pieces of individual brilliance to help his team pick up a crucial 2-nil win over Tottenham last night. Foden’s magic was a key part of the world champions potentially season defining win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Manchester City and Tottenham went in at nil-all at half time of last night’s game. The first half was a tense affair as the stakes of last night’s game became apparent on the pitch. Foden had City’s best first-half chance. But his early effort was saved by Vicario. Coming out after half time, the champions knew what they needed to do. They had to win the game, and Manchester City’s wonderboy played a key role in his team’s precious victory.

It was a sublime piece of touch and control from Foden that opened up the space for City’s opener. While his cross was partially cleared and Bernardo Silva, Kevin De Bruyne, and Erling Haaland combined to open the scoring, it was Foden’s touch and brilliance that created the opening. That piece of play was the perfect encapsulation of Foden’s brilliance. He would repeat the dose again later in proceedings to help settle the game.
Following Stefan Ortega’s monumental save from Son Hueng-Min, minutes later, a sublime volleyed pass from Foden played through Jeremy Doku. The Belgian winger had Pedro Porro on toast as his fancy footwork earned City a penalty. Erling Haaland emphatically dispatched the penalty to seal a precious victory for the champions. It was on full display last night as he provided two game breaking pieces of individual skill to help Manchester City unlock Spurs resistance. Stefan Ortega will deservedly get the headlines for his heroics last night, but Foden’s contribution was crucial to Manchester City’s win.
