Manchester City are reportedly keen on one of their most important players remaining at the club. Sam Lee has previously reported for the Athletic on the Saudi Pro League’s interest in securing the services of Kevin De Bruyne. But a new report indicates that Manchester City are keen to retain the services of on of theirr most influential players.
In a Q&A segment hosted for theAthletic reporter, David Ornstein provided an update on City’s desire to keep Kevin De Bruyne at the club. When asked about De Bruyne’s status at Manchester City, Ornstein answered: “As far as I know, Manchester City want De Bruyne to stay. But that doesn’t mean he will. The player himself will need to make a decision – if he hasn’t already – on what he wants to do. If he opts to stay/renew, great. If not, let’s see if/what offers arrive. How City respond and – should he depart – whether a direct replacement is recruited or (Phil) Foden becomes his successor.”

Despite getting closer to the end of his career than the beginning, Kevin De Bruyne is still an integral piece of the Manchester City squad. His importance was on full display during yesterday’s FA Cup semi-final win over Chelsea. Despite not being at his best, De Bruyne was still able to lift his team a famous victory through his will and determination. Although he has battled injuries this season when he has been available and fit his importance to Pep Guardiola’s squad has shown no signs of diminishing.
Circumstances could change if De Bruyne does decide to head to the Saudi Pro League. Manchester City would not want to lose the club legend, but if he were to decide to leave the club, the world champions would be expecting a sizable transfer fee for Kevin De Bruyne. Considering the vast wealth of the Saudi Pro League, if De Bruyne did decide to leave Manchester City, they would likely receive a massive transfer fee for the midfielder.
But as it stands currently, Manchester City want to keep De Bruyne at the club. It is positive news given that a busy summer transfer window may lie ahead for the world champions. Keeping Kevin De Bruyne at the club would mean they retain the services of one of the best playmakers in world football. Despite suffering injury issues this season, De Bruyne’s sizable ability has shown no signs of diminishing. With that in mind, it would be a huge boost if they do keep De Bruyne at the club for next season and beyond.
