Pep Guardiola provides an injury update ahead of Manchester City’s FA Cup tie against Tottenham

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has provided an injury update on his squad. The FA Cup holders face Tottenham Hotspur at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium tomorrow night in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Heading into their winter break Manchester City had several players out due to injury. Erling Haaland, John Stones and Manuel Akanji were all out due to injury. Jack Grealish had just recovered from illness to be on the bench for City’s 3-2 win over Newcastle. Goalkeeper Ederson was substituted early in the victory over Newcastle at St.James Park.

There was positive news from the world champions training camp in Abu Dhabi. Erling Haaland and John Stones both returned to first-team training. Ederson also recovered from the knock he suffered against Newcastle. Jack Grealish was also back training after illness in Abu Dhabi. It leaves only Manuel Akanji who hasn’t returned to training as of yet.

Pep Guardiola provided an injury update at his pre-game press conference before tomorrow’s clash with Tottenham. When asked about Erling Haaland’s recovery from the foot injury that has kept him out of City’s last 9 games he said: “He’s on the verge of coming back. Tomorrow, still he is not ready but he is close. Some training sessions he has trained in the last two days. It’s not perfect so we wait a little bit more.”

When asked about the status of John Stones and Manuel Akanji for tomorrow night the City boss told the media: “Akanji is out and John has come back. He (John Stones) will be in contention for team selection but he is back with us.

Guardiola also said Ederson had recovered from his knock against Newcastle. He added about Ederson’s condition: “He’s okay now.”

Manchester City will be looking for their first ever win at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in tomorrow night’s FA Cup tie. They will be aided by the return of John Stones for the clash with Ange Postecoglou’s side.
