Rodri is right the best of this Manchester City team is still to come

Manchester City’s midfield general Rodri believes the best of this season’s City team is yet to come. On face value his statement is correct. This season has seen the treble winners squad hit by injuries for the majority of the season. Despite this Pep Guardiola’s side have positioned themselves well for the second half of the season. They sit 4 points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool and have qualified with ease from Group G of the Champions League.

Speaking with mancity.com Rodri believes the best is still to come from his team this season. Speaking about this season’s team he said: “I think the best version of this team is still to come when we recover all of the players and the machine starts again. I try to talk with the lads about this. We are an unbelievable team and this is built from individuals and I think we have to show the best of all of each (player).”

Rodri’s belief that this season’s City squad can only improve appears valid. Kevin De Bruyne has only played 20 minutes all season and injuries have struck John Stones, Mateo Kovacic, Matheus Nunes, Jeremy Doku and Erling Haaland. The European champions haven’t had their best side on the pitch for an extended period yet this season. The hope is that the injuries subside and Pep Guardiola can get his best lineup together for the second half of the season.

Of course, there is no guarantee this will happen. Injuries can’t be controlled and are part and parcel of the game. City have had their fair share already this campaign.

Rodri’s statement appears correct we haven’t seen the best version of this City squad. With some luck in the injury front, we will in the second half of the season.
