After four Premier League games without a win Manchester City will face Luton Town at Kenilworth Road looking to return to winning ways. City have dropped points against Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham and Aston Villa in their last four games. While Luton Town don’t have the pedigree of City’s last four opponents they will provide a different challenge for the treble winners.
Despite sitting 18th in the Premier League table Rob Edwards’s side have acquitted themselves well in the top flight. They were unfortunate to be beaten last weekend by Arsenal at Kenilworth Road. They went down 4-3 with a late Declan Rice goal separating the two sides. They also gave Liverpool a mighty scare with a late Luis Diaz goal denying Luton Town a famous win. At Kenilworth Road, the newly promoted side will be up for the visit of the reigning champions.
The hosts are a threat from set-pieces which will give the European champions something to guard against. Luton Town aren’t prolific scorers but do possess a threat from set-pieces and long balls. To highlight their lack of a prolific and consistent goal scorer they have three players as their leading scorer this season. Carlton Morris, Elijah Adebayo and Jacob Brown have each scored 3 goals in competitions to lead Luton Town’s scoring chart.
But what Luton Town do possess is a hungry team who will work together and be backed by vocal home ground. Manchester City will have to be ready for what awaits at Kenilworth Road.
Before the season began most would’ve pencilled this game as three points for Pep Guardiola’s side. Such is the difference in quality between the two sides. But given City’s recent dip in form and Luton’s strong showing against Arsenal a tough proposition awaits the treble winners.
