Kevin De Bruyne will miss the start of next season with the hamstring injury he suffered in the Champions League final.
De Bruyne went off injured in the first half of Manchester City’s UEFA Champions League final win over Inter Milan.
It’s reported by the Daily Star that De Bruyne suffered a grade 3 hamstring tear.
That injury would mean De Bruyne would miss the games during City’s preseason tour of Japan and Korea.
He’d also miss the Community Shield against Arsenal, and likely City’s Premier League opener away to Burnley.
City are optimistic he’d be available for the European Super Cup against Sevilla.
City’s Belgian wizard spoke post the Champions League final win of how he carried the injury through the back end of last season.
“It’s a shame that it went the way it did for me here, but we go away winning the Champions League so there’s nothing bad towards it.
“I felt all right this week, but I’ve been told for two months it was a risk – but, you know, you take it.
“I did what I had to do. Obviously I missed some games, but the games like Arsenal, Bayern and Madrid I managed to do it.
“I had some personal things happen with my family on top of that and I managed that, but, here, the hamstring just snapped.”
The injury news is a blow to Manchester City and Kevin De Bruyne.
It does give a chance for De Bruyne to finally get some rest after playing so much football for City and Belgium in the past two seasons.
It’s not ideal for one of Manchester City’s key players to suffer a injury of this nature, but there is a silver lining to the news.
