Erling Haaland: Will he become Manchester City’s first Ballon D’or winner?

Erling Haaland, will he become Manchester City’s first Ballon D’or winner?

After arguably the greatest debut season by any player in history, can Haaland win world football’s highest individual award?

Haaland has had a season for the ages. 52 goals in all competitions in 53 games. A multitude of individual awards, and a season of memories that will last a lifetime.

That doesn’t mention all the records Erling Haaland has broken. The Nordic Meat Shield has smashed nearly every goal scoring record in English football. That’s in his first season at Manchester City.

Haaland has been a integral part of the Manchester City machine this season. His goals stand out, obviously.

His play developed as the season progressed. Haaland added to his all round game at City. He linked play more, and provided 9 assists on top of his goals.

Not bad for a player who supposedly ‘only scores goals’.

Also not bad for a player who had supposedly ‘picked the wrong team’.

But for Haaland the team comes first. All the goals and individual success aren’t nearly as valuable to Haaland as team success.

Haaland has achieved that with Manchester City. The treble only solidifying Haaland’s case for the Ballon D’or.

Haaland’s case for the Ballon D’or is almost overwhelming.

The competition for the Ballon D’or this year seems thin. The only competition for Haaland appears to be Lionel Messi.

The Argentine legend winning the World Cup in Qatar cemented his legacy. Is that enough to beat Haaland to FIFA’s glittering prize?

Treble winner. Champions League golden boot winner. Premier League golden boot winner. Surely that’s enough to secure Haaland the Ballon D’or?
