Has the form of a Brazilian winger closed the door on a Manchester City move for a Chelsea winger?

One of the bright spots from Manchester City’s tour of Asia was the impressive form of Savinho. The Brazilian international looked like a player ideally suited to playing on the wing in an Enzo Maresca side. Savinho’s ability in one-on-one situations was a weapon for Manchester City in the three friendlies they played in Asia. It was expected that Savinho would likely leave City this summer. However, it is clear that Maresca rates Savinho given how much he played in City’s preseason tour of Asia.

Manchester City are in the market for a winger, especially if Savinho departs the club. Chelsea winger Pedro Neto has been named as a potential target for that role. However, Neto is reportedly not in Manchester City’s sights this summer and you do wonder if Savinho could remain at City after all.

Manchester City are not interested in signing Pedro Neto from Chelsea.

Ben Ransom has reported for Sky Sports that Manchester City are not interested in signing Pedro Neto from Chelsea. The Portuguese international was named as a target for the FA Cup and Carabao Cup holders. However, it does seem like that move is now off the table. Ransom adds that the situation could change but for now, a City move for the Portuguese international is off the table.

Has the form of Savinho changed Manchester City’s transfer plans?

It had seemed all summer that Manchester City would sign a winger. The expectation was that Savinho would leave the club. It was expected that Savinho would eventually sign for Tottenham. However, that particular move looks to have been put on the back burner.

You do wonder if Savinho’s performances throughout City’s preseason matches have changed Manchester City’s plans. The Brazilian international was impressive on the right wing. His playing style looks ready-made for him to play an important role for Enzo Maresca’s side. Yes, Savinho has areas of his game to improve. That has never been in doubt. You do wonder if playing under Enzo Maresca is what Savinho needs to improve his end-product. Clearly, Enzo Maresca likes the look of Savinho otherwise he wouldn’t have played him so often in the three preseason friendlies that his team played.

Pedro Neto is a player that won’t sign for Manchester City this summer. The Chelsea winger is off the board for City. Looking at how Savinho performed during City’s preseason, you have to wonder if City have decided to keep the Brazilian winger and give him an important role in Enzo Maresca’s side.

    1. He cant pass either! He has been around too long for the little use he has been so get rid if Spurs want to waste £60m on him. Nunes is as good a winger and he can pass as well as finish and he is a full back

      1. The counter to that is that Pep, Ferran Soriano, Enzo Maresca and obviously Roberto De Zerbi see something with Savinho. His flaws we all know, but there is a player there. I’m not sure if he gets sold by the end of the window, perhaps that is likely. But he isn’t a complete dud of a player. Is he frustrating? Yes he is. But he does have real scope for improvement.

Hypothetically, if we signed Illiman Ndiaye from Everton for that particular role, is he an upgrade on Savinho? That is hypothetical as we have been linked with Ndiaye and he just rejected the opportunity to go to Saudi Arabia.

  1. We briefly saw McAidoo and we all gave him rave noticies because as well as beating his man also has the talent to pass and shoot. Ask yourself “when did Savio get that kind of attention”. Pep’s judgement was not always perfect as anyone who was in Oporto that fatal night will tell you
