It’s time Rodri is recognised as the best midfielder in world football

As the European Championships continued yesterday one thing has become apparent. Rodri should be recognised as the world’s best midfielder. His importance to Manchester City is well known. But as Spain beat Georgia 4-1 to book a quarter-final clash with Germany it became clear that City’s midfield general is by far the best midfielder in the game.

Heading into last night’s game against Georgia Spain were heavy favourites. It was expected that Spain would cruise past Georgia to book their place in the quarter-finals of Euro 24. But the Georgians had other ideas. They took a surprise lead in the 18th minute through a Robin Le Normand own goal. From there Spain needed someone to step and right the ship. It was Rodri who scored the equaliser in the 39th minute and set Spain on their way to an emphatic 4-1 win.

Rodri picked up the man-of-the-match award for his inspirational display for Spain. When his country needed a leader it was City’s midfield general who stepped up. His performance followed a similar pattern that he has displayed for Manchester City in recent times. When his team needed a leader it was Rodri who stood up to be counted. It is a trait coupled with his tremendous technical and tactical ability that makes Rodri the best midfielder in world football.

Manchester City, Pep Guardiola and City’s fans know just how good Rodri is. He is by far Manchester City’s and Spain’s most important player. Now it’s time he was recognised as the world’s best midfielder. His play warrants that title and it’s one his earned over a prolonged period of time.
