While the media tips Messi to win the award again after Argentina’s World Cup victory, it is hard to dismiss any Blues.
Despite the fact that Messi did win the World Cup – Alvarez won the World Cup, the Premier League, the Champions League and FA Cup.
And yes. It probably will be Messi.
However, our Boys in Blue need their shout outs.
If it was up to me, it would be Rodri. In my opinion, he was the best player in the world last year.
He’s got the silverware to back it up. Not only did our “master of midfield” win the treble, he scored the Champions League final match-winning goal. He also won the Nations League with Spain.
Haaland broke almost every record known to man in his debut season. Some claimed he was brought in to win us the Champions League. And while that happened, I believe there is more to it.
There is no doubt he will win the Ballon d’Or one day – whether bias against Manchester City will get in the way remains to be seen.
However, he is undoubtedly the most talented striker currently. A goal machine. And I believe this is a signing not only for the Champions League, but to truly establish the Blues amongst the “elite”.
He could have gone anywhere. But he was destined to be a Blue.
Other nominations include Gvardiol, Bernardo, De Bruyne, Dias and Rodri. Gundogan was also shortlisted.
ManCity.com have confirmed the shortlist.
