At the end of 2027, Cavan Sullivan will join Manchester City. City secured the signing of the prodigiously talented young attacking midfielder some time ago. Sullivan has long been regarded as one of the top young prospects in world football. His performances for the Philadelphia Union in the MLS this season have further emphasized this fact. The 16-year-old has earned his first call-up to the United States national team and his performances for the Philadelphia Union have seen him establish himself as one of the top attacking players in the American top flight.
Football is filled with elite young players who have the potential to become world-beaters. In the case of Cavan Sullivan, both on and off the pitch, he looks to have what it takes to fulfil his massive potential as Manchester City hope he will.

On the pitch, Cavan Sullivan has quickly shown he has the talent to succeed when he arrives at City.
Cavan Sullivan has enjoyed a meteoric rise for the Philadelphia Union this season. It has always seemed to be a matter of when Sullivan would establish himself as a starter for the Philadelphia Union. That has happened this season. Sullivan’s place in his team’s starting lineup wasn’t handed to him. It was an opportunity he seized with both hands.
Primarily, Cavan Sullivan operates on the right-hand side and drifts centrally and to the left. Sullivan’s heat map which can be seen via the attached link from Fotmob, gives an indication of where Sullivan primarily plays. Across all competitions for the Philadelphia Union, Sullivan has scored 10 goals and added 9 assists in 30 appearances. Cutting inside onto his left foot from the right is a major weapon in Sullivan’s game. There are shades of Phil Foden to Sullivan’s game in this regard. Sullivan operates more a wide playmaker rather than a winger. This role suits his game in particular his close control, dribbling and penchant to produce the spectacular.
In terms of his creativity, Cavan Sullivan is a major weapon for the Philadelphia Union. He creates 2.11 chances per 90 minutes, which shows what he offers in the final third. Cavan Sullivan’s pass % sits at 71.6% per 90 minutes, which illustrates that he is a risk taker in terms of the passes he attempts. As he matures, that number should rise. Plug him into a Manchester City side, for example, and that number should rise exponentially.
Cavan Sullivan is a fighter as well as a creative threat.
Cavan Sullivan is an elite dribbler, as the statistics illustrate. According to Fotmob, he completes 2.60 dribbles per 90 minutes at a success rate of 56%. Also, Cavan Sullivan has the right amount of fight to his play. He wins 6.07 duels per 90 minutes with a success rate of 47.3% per 90. Cavan Sullivan is elite with the ball at his feet and he isn’t afraid to get stuck in to win back possession.
Coupling those traits together gives a good indication of what type of player Sullivan is. He is exceptionally gifted on the ball and he has the fight in him to work for his team. Both are traits that will set him up well for life at Manchester City.

Off the pitch, Cavan Sullivan seemingly has the necessary drive to hit the ground running at Manchester City.
The statistics paint a picture of the type of player that Cavan Sullivan is. Watching him play for the Philadelphia Union, he looks to be a cut above many. For a 16-year-old, that is a testament to his obvious talent. However, it takes more than talent to make it at the top level of football that a club like Manchester City sits at. Cavan Sullivan is a determined and hard-working player, as a recent article from Jonathan Tannenwald for the Inquirer illustrates.
In the article, interim Philadelphia Union manager Ryan Richter praised Cavan Sullivan’s mentality and work rate at training. He believes it is a key trait in Sullivan’s game. Richter explained: “He trains like an animal every single day. His outstanding quality is the mentality that he has, and the way that he approaches every game and every day, and that’s what pushes him to get better and better.”
Cavan Sullivan will join Manchester City at the end of next year. Until then, he will continue to develop as a player at the Philadelphia Union. Sullivan has come on leaps and bounds this season. The fact that he has become one of the stars of the MLS and received a call up to the United States national team speaks to his talent and meteoric rise.
However, it takes more than just prodigious talent to make it at Manchester City. It takes hard work and elite mentality to succeed at City. Cavan Sullivan has this in spades as well. Cavan Sullivan’s arrival at Manchester City is still some way off. But by the time he arrives at City he could be ready to make a bigger impact than expected. That isn’t placing added pressure on Sullivan’s shoulders. It is a fair assessment on his growth this season as a player and it does feel like this season is a precursor of what is to come from Cavan Sullivan in the future.

Adam I know this is nothing to do with this article but I offer my views on these “breaking News” on the 115 “Charges”
There is something very suspicious if the story is true. (1) Why leaked via an American Sports Journal from New York? Mmmm? Red Cartel and American Owners. These whole investigations were supposed to be so Private and Confidential.
(2) I have personally always maintained that if the PL could prove their case 100% beyond doubt then it would have been over 2 years ago YET after 3 years they arrive at an almost 100% guilt verdict so if it is so cut and dried why has it taken so long?. If you look at the powerful legal team City assembled it is inconceivable that the result could be this bad. Something stinks here and the Supreme Court beckons.
I’m going to write about it all later today/tomorrow. It is a right mess of a situation and one I’m currently reading up on before I write about it yet.
Cheers Adam. One thing stands out. Considering these enquiries have been so “Confidential” that no one has heard a whisper over the last 2 years, as the PL have stressed, I think we all expected the final verdict to be announced firstly by the PL after City had been informed YET it gets leaked to an American sports journal and neither City or the PL have issued a response to date.
The second point is Murray Rosen KC the head of PL judiciary who appointed this panel and who is also a member of Arsenal FC our hated opponent. The Club initially opposed his involvement but were over rulled.
Initially it was rumoured that the PL had “pressed the nuclear button” and demanded all charges were met or nothing so if one fell the rest would follow.
The whole thing stinks and We have to hope this whole thing can be heard (as with CAS) in a REAL Court of Law and not the Kangaroo Court of the Red Cartel.
Just a quick post script following the Chairman’s letter this afternoon on the City Website.
Just as in 2020 I personally believe and trust in the Chairman’s word. Rhodri has just issued a similar statement and if that is good enough for HIM then it is good enough for ME. I trust it goes without saying I can include you in that too Adam?
I only wish we had CAS to turn to so I assume we can have similar here.
I trust the club, the board and everyone. I’ve taken a few days off to get my head around it all and with other commitments, but whatever happens I’ll still back the club and until the appeal is heard my stance won’t change which is the same as yours.
Funny how we are financially solvent and have invested millions into Manchester and the local economy (as the PM will testify when Mayor) and on top of that has the finest Youth Academy in the UK if not the World and yet the PL want to persecute Us and there is Manchester Utd, over a Billion in debt, with a crumbling ground and team to boot and making dozens of staff redundant and yet THEY HAVE INFLUENCE ON FOOTBALL FINANCE IN THE PL!
That sums up the PL, an Organization formed by such “honourable” souls as Rupert Murdoch, Martin Edwards and Greg Dyke. I rest my case M;lud!!!
