Manchester City vs Coventry City: Latest City team news and predicted City starting eleven for today’s match

Manchester City take on Coventry City today at the Etihad Stadium in their third Premier League match of the season. Enzo Maresca’s side have started the season impressively with consecutive wins over Bournemouth and Crystal Palace to get out of the blocks strongly. They’ll be looking for a third straight win to carry on the momentum they’ve built to begin the new season. Coventry City will come to the Etihad Stadium today looking to pick up their first points since being promoted. Frank Lampard’s side has lost their first two matches to Arsenal and Hull City so they’ll be eager to put their best foot forward today.

Here is the latest City team and injury news and my predicted Manchester City starting eleven ahead of today’s match.

Latest City team and injury news.

Manchester City enter today’s match with only one player unavailable due to injury. Jeremy Doku remains sidelined due to the calf injury he sustained during the FA Community Shield against Arsenal. In good news for City, Enzo Maresca revealed yesterday that Matheus Nunes is available for today’s match. That is good news for City given how important Nunes is to Manchester City’s system at right-back.

There could be a host of Manchester City debuts at the Etihad Stadium today. City completed the signings of Enzo Fernandez, Iliman Ndiaye, and Allan before the transfer window closed. It would seem there is a strong chance that all three could debut at some point today against Coventry City. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Enzo Fernandez and Iliman Ndiaye start given their prior experience in the Premier League. Allan would be more likely to come off the bench given that he has only recently arrived in England from Brazil.

Today’s match is the first of five for Manchester City in fifteen days before the international break. There is a chance that Enzo Maresca could rotate his squad with an eye on Tuesday night’s UEFA Champions League league phase fixture against FC Porto. How City line up today will be interesting to see as there is no doubt that if there are any surprise selections in today’s starting lineup they will be made with an eye on that match.

Predicted Manchester City starting eleven.

  1. I’d find some way of getting Semenyo in the starting line up. Probably by losing Foden (never thought I’d say that!)

  2. Keep looking at your line up and I can’t helo but think where is Bouaddi. Where is O’Reilly. Where is Semeny?

Then I see Anderson that’s 8 covered. Cherki thats 10 and other than satisfying Marescas love interest what’s Fernandez doing there?

In terms of City’s “planning” Fernandez started off as not wanted then suddenly wanted and then let’s leave it until the last day shall we first he was too expensive although we could have got him earlier at £5m than we eventually did .

Sorry to obssess about this but his USP is his winning mentality being Chelsea finishing 10th and FA Cup also rans not to mention his World Cup contributions.

This just doesn’t feel right to me. Here’s hoping I’m wrong but this is one big roll of the dice by the new manager.

    1. I’m thinking there will be one eye on the Porto game with the team selection for today’s match. I expect Bouaddi to start that game

  3. Incidentally it was interesting to watch the reaction of City players saying their goodbyes to Gonzales and Marmoush. Clearly there was a very close bond with Erling telling Marmoush not to ghost him on Snapchat.

    No sign of Reijnders though.

Here’s hoping that strong team ethic stays in tact.
