Despite Jack Grealish coming off the bench twice to begin the 2026-27 season for Manchester City, it always seemed that the England international would once again be on the move this summer. Last season, Grealish was sent out on loan to Everton. He made 20 appearances for David Moyes’ side, scoring two goals and providing six assists. Unfortunately, a stress fracture in his foot prematurely ended Grealish’s 2025-26 season. Now, Grealish is set to head back to Everton on loan once again. That does seem like the perfect move for the Manchester City favourite.

David Ornstein has reported for The Athletic that Everton have agreed to sign Jack Grealish on another season-long loan deal. Furthermore, Ornstein reports that Grealish is set to undergo his medical ahead of his loan move to Merseyside today. It is also reported that multiple clubs had enquired about the possibility of signing Jack Grealish from Manchester City this summer. However, Everton were Grealish’s preferred option and they were the only club willing to meet City’s terms to sanction a loan move for the England international.
For a brief moment, it appeared that Jack Grealish could remain at Manchester City, but a move back to Everton is ideal for him.
If Manchester City couldn’t have signed another attacking player, there did seem to be a chance that Grealish could have had a role to play for Enzo Maresca. Grealish knows the City system and he did play a promising cameo off the bench when City beat Bournemouth 2-1 on the opening weekend of the Premier League season. However City have since signed Allan from Palmeiras and Everton winger Iliman Ndiaye is also set to become a City player.
Therefore, Jack Grealish didn’t have a role in Enzo Maresca’s squad. Or, if he remained at City, he would be playing a greatly reduced one. Grealish will instead now head to Everton on loan where he did play well last season before injury struck. There is a role for Grealish to play in David Moyes’ side as Everton do need quality in attack. Jack Grealish should provide this. Also, Grealish looked to enjoy his football again last season and that was pleasing to see. Seeing the Manchester City favourite prosper was good to see, so hopefully he can do so again this season.

That is almost the perfect move for Grealish as he likely wouldn’t have had a prominent to play at Manchester City this season. Now Grealish should be a first team regular at Everton once again which is the ideal scenario for him.
