The biggest departure from the Manchester City squad that could occur this summer is midfield general Rodri. At this stage of the summer transfer window, Rodri’s future remains uncertain. He has one more year remaining on his current contract with City and a return to Spain has long been mooted for the Ballon d’Or-winning midfielder. It has now been reported that Barcelona, rather than Real Madrid, have agreed personal terms with Manchester City’s midfield general. Also, another report indicates that Rodri is set to meet with Enzo Maresca when he returns to Manchester City early next week. Whatever occurs, it does seem like next week is a critical juncture in the future of Rodri.

Ben Jacobs has reported that Rodri is set to hold talks over his future with Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca in the coming days. Rodri is currently on holiday after his efforts for Spain at the World Cup. Furthermore, Jacobs reports that Real Madrid and Barcelona are both eager to sign Rodri this summer. It is also reported by Jacobs that Manchester City are relaxed about the situation surrounding Rodri. If Rodri doesn’t depart the club this summer City aren’t concerned about the possibility of losing Rodri for free when his contract expires next summer.
Pol Ballús and Mario Cortegana have reported for The Athletic that Barcelona are exploring the possibility of signing Rodri. Furthermore, it is reported that Barcelona have held talks with Rodri’s camp and that Rodri’s preference is to sign for Barcelona instead of Real Madrid. Rodri believes that Barcelona’s playing style and the fact that eight members of Spain’s World Cup squad play at Barcelona means he would make a smooth transition into their squad.
Lastly, Fabrizio Romano has reported that Rodri has in fact agreed personal terms with Barcelona. Romano further reports that negotiations between Manchester City and Barcelona over a deal for Rodri are imminent and that Barcelona want to sign Rodri as soon as possible.
Next week seems likely to decide whether or not Rodri leaves Manchester City this summer.

The sooner that clarity arrives over Rodri’s intentions, the better. It now looks like that may arrive, which would allow City to plan for a future with Rodri or without.
Of course non of Us actually knows what has been said behind the scenes and hope that Rhodri has already made his position clear to City so they can quickly plan ahead.
However if he is keeping City in the dark then I would be more than happy to let him go as We don’t need that sort of disloyalty.
If he goes then I can say, along with thousands of City fans, he has been a great player for Us and We have probably had the best years from him BUT do not expect the everlasting hero status or a statue. He will never be a Club Legend in the same way Sir Vincent, David Silva or Sergio were but just another great player like YaYa was.
Yaya was a scumbag who accused the club of preventing him from being with his brother not only when the latter was dying of cancer, but also at his moment of death. None of that, it turns out, was true.
As annoyed with Rodri as I am, he will never inhabit the same hall of shame as Yaya.
Despite the bad mouthing of the Club by YaYa he was a great player and made his biggest contribution in 2011 when we won our first trophy in 35 years and got that banner taken down at OT. He will surely be remembered for that just as Rhodri will for his goal in Istanbul
Of course Yaya is remembered for contributions to City, his status isn’t in dispute however his agents antics left a sour taste, much like Rodri’s.
To the point, they are both club legends. That isn’t in dispute I’d have thought. Where you place one over the other is a matter of personal opinion.
Neither could be said to be “legends” in the same category as Sir Vincent, David Silva or Sergio but just Great Players ,as I said originally, ie. not worthy of a statue.
We must not let Rodri and his ever present injury situation overshadow a third consecutive season. Show him the door for what we can get for him so Maresca can be free to mold his own squad to implement his own vision for how we will play.
Agree on that. Let Rodri go, thank him for the memories and look ahead.
