Manchester City signed promising young midfielder Sverre Nypan from Rosenberg last summer. Nypan arrived at City as one of the elite midfield prospects in European football. Upon arriving at City, Nypan was sent out on loan to Middlesbrough. However, Nypan’s loan spell didn’t go as planned and he returned to City in January. Nypan didn’t feature for the City first team and spent his time training with Pep Guardiola’s squad and playing for City’s EDS side. Sverre Nypan has now been sent out on loan to City Football Group side Lommel SK. Nypan’s loan move to Belgium does loom as an important moment in his young career.

Manchester City have confirmed that Sverre Nypan will spend the 2026-27 season on loan with Lommel SK. Nypan will spend next season playing in the Belgian Pro League. Lommel SK is a City Football Group club, so Manchester City will be able to keep a close eye on his performances and progress next season through their ties with Lommel SK.

Alex James has reported for the Manchester Evening News that Manchester City have decided to send Sverre Nypan out on loan to Lommel SK. James also reports that Manchester City believe that Nypan will have the opportunity to play regularly in Belgium next season. Furthermore, it is reported that Manchester City’s Director of Football, Hugo Viana, was involved in the decision to send Nypan out on loan to Lommel SK. Typically, Viana isn’t involved in this process.
Manchester City will be hoping that Sverre Nypan grasps the opportunity in front of him in what looms as an important season for Nypan.
Sverre Nypan now has a good opportunity to play regularly at Lommel SK. While there may have been more attractive clubs or leagues for Nypan to spend next season at, he needs to be playing regularly to accelerate his development. The young Norwegian midfielder will get that opportunity at Lommel SK. That is the best move for him. Nypan couldn’t afford another tough loan spell without playing on a regular basis. He should avoid this fate for next season.
The 2026-27 season does loom as an important one for Sverre Nypan. Nypan has the potential to make it at the top level. His ability in midfield and versatility to play in a number of roles in midfield makes him a tantalizing prospect. However, he needs to take a step forward this season. If that occurs, Nypan could be in line to one day make an impact at Manchester City. If Nypan has a tough time in Belgium, he may face a battle to ever make the grade at City.
Sverre Nypan will spend the 2026-27 season out on loan from Manchester City at Lommel SK. The fact that Nypan will remain at a City Football Group club can only be viewed as a positive. The Cith hierarchy will keep a close on his progress which does indicate how highly they rate the young midfielder.
My guess is he will be put out on show until some European club doubles what we paid for him along with the usual add on’s. It will add a few more million on to our Academy Sales account which has risen to almost £600m over the last 10 years. I suspect our latest addition from Leicester will go the same way although we are yet to get rid of another of that genre in Savio,
Young promising players should be beware of City.
I can’t agree with that last line. Why should young players be wary of City? They come here for the education and the hope of becoming first team players. No guarantees are made to them that they’ll make that level.
However, most of them get sold and have very good careers as the list of players across Europe who have spent time in the City system is massive.
There’s nothing to be wary of, it’s an opportunity for them that could lead to the City first team. Nothing more.
I think you mistook my point. I did not say they should not sign but to be wary of how they want to see their future and not believe by signing they may eventually play for the Club when the strong likely hood is that they will not. If they, as you say, are coming to develop, like going to University, and not looking at their future here then fine so what puzzles me somewhat is why all the usual signing on ceremony which gives our Supporters the wrong message i.e. we have signed a player for Our future team.
