A major decision from a Manchester City midfielder won’t arrive until after the World Cup

Rodri’s contract with Manchester City is set to expire at the end of the 2026-27 season. Fabrizio Romano has previously reported that City are determined to extend Rodri’s contract beyond next season. For now, no progress has been made on this front for the FA Cup and Carabao Cup holders. There may not be any news on this for some time. Speaking while on international duty with Spain for the upcoming World Cup, Rodri has revealed that he is solely focused on representing Spain. It seems that the questions that surround Rodri’s future will swirl for some time yet.

Rodri won’t announce any decision on his future plans until after the World Cup.

In an interview published by the BBC, Rodri has revealed that he won’t be making any decision on his future until after the World Cup. Manchester City are eager to extend Rodri’s contract, while Real Madrid’s interest in signing Rodri is well-known. Manchester City’s midfield general explained: “With a World Cup ahead, my responsibility is to stay focused. Anything related to my future will wait until after the World Cup.

Also, Rodri added that if there wasn’t a World Cup on the horizon, his future intentions may already be known. He added: “When a player is approaching the final stage of his contract, it’s normal for names to be mentioned. I’m very calm, I know exactly where I stand, and I’ll tell you that perhaps if there hadn’t been a World Cup, things might be different now.

Manchester City will be hoping that Rodri extends his contract and they can move forward with him.

Obviously, Manchester City will not want to lose Rodri this summer or for free at the end of next season. Despite his injury issues over the past two seasons, he remains one of Manchester City’s most important players. Also, Rodri is a vital presence in Manchester City’s new era. With Bernardo Silva and John Stones having left the club, Rodri’s experience and leadership will be crucial to City.

Rodri is solely focused on the World Cup for the time being. That is understandable given that Spain are one of the favorites to win the tournament. City will be hoping that following the tournament their midfield general extends his contract. That would be the dream scenario for the FA Cup and Carabao Cup holders. However, Rodri’s intentions won’t be known for some time yet.

Rodri will not make any decision on his future until late in the summer. The World Cup is his sole priority. It is now expected that speculation will swirl around his future for some time yet, but this doesn’t faze Rodri, as he explained yesterday.

  1. Rhodri is a world class player and we have lost too many of them over the last couple of years and any club would need him during a rebuild. Real are well known for wanting to get players as cheaply as possible. I think they are likely to go for him next summer otherwise City would want £50m+. If he stays another year then goes for nothing then we have had our moneys worth out of him as he would be approaching 31.

    1. Hello Jasper.
I would agree with that. The problem with most of these Spanish sources is they seem to have connections with Real and Barca. Also watching Rodri, alas on the box, he still has not reached the level pre injury.

      1. Yes I see a recent rumour coming from the same scources that Konate is going to Real from Liverpool. Given his awful performances for them this season they were glad to see the back of him which shows where Real really are. We have performed badly against them apart from 2023 and even this year when they were rubbish Pep still seemed to have a blind spot tactically. Perhaps his passing may show how we have under performed in the latter stages of the CL. We will see
