During his time at Manchester City, Rodri has firmly established himself as a key player for Pep Guardiola’s side. There is a strong argument to be made that Rodri remains by far Manchester City’s most important player. This season has seen Rodri slowly return to his best after the ACL injury he sustained last season and the frustrating first half of this season he endured. As good as Rodri has been, it is expected that he will return to his best next season. Manchester City will be hoping for that to occur. But will Rodri be at City next season? Recent comments from Manchester City’s midfield general do appear to cast doubt over his future at City.
Rodri refuses to be drawn into a discussion over his future.
Manchester City’s midfield general recently spoke in an interview with Spanish publication Carrusel Deportivo. The topic of Rodri’s future did come up in the interview. When asked about his future, in light of Real Madrid’s reported interest in signing him, the Manchester City midfielder refused to discuss his future. He said when asked about his future: “No, no. I’m not going to answer that.”
“It’s a time to think about what we have now, with my team, about my season, which is quite a lot – and then we’ll see.”
Fabrizio Romano has previously reported that Rodri is expected to make a decision on his future soon. Romano reports that if Rodri does not sign a contract extension with Manchester City, Real Madrid could step up their interest in signing the Ballon d’Or winner.
Manchester City will not want to lose Rodri under any circumstances, but they will have contingency plans in place.
Rodri’s comment, or lack thereof, on his future could be interpreted as a concern for Manchester City. City will not want to lose such a key and inspirational player. The hope is that Rodri will extend his contract with City. Whether or not that occurs remains to be seen. Time will reveal whether Rodri plans to remain at City or seek a new challenge after conquering every single challenge as a Manchester City player and firmly establishing himself as one of the best midfielders in football.
Manchester City will have a contingency plan in place in case Rodri does decide to seek a new challenge. City are too well run as a club not be prepared for that possibility. It is hoped that City don’t have to activate such a plan and Rodri decides to remain a City player.
Rodri has refused to comment on his future. That could be interpreted as a sign that Manchester City’s midfield general is considering his future, or perhaps Rodri is solely focused on matters on the pitch for the time being.

I suppose the question will always be: “would he want to go to that nest of narcissistic vipers who boycotted his Baloon d’Or presentation. I would think he has to consider his age much like Gunda did when he got to that awkward age of 29/30. If you extend by 2 years you are committing yourself to more or less your twilight years. Do you wan’t a couple of years with a new challenge as the PL can exhaust you. I think it could depend on how he sees to Club and Peps future.
apparently Rhodri gave an extra long wave to the fans after last nights game. His last CL game for us ? Have you any observations or was it just a long wave with nothing in it?
I haven’t seen it so I can’t form and opinion on it. I doubt there’d be anything in it as we still have more games to play at home this season.
I think the implication it was his last Champions League game and he may be departing but I tend to agree with you he would not especially make such an indirect gesture. There does seem to be a feeling/rumour on the “terraces” that something is afoot in the background and if someone stumps up £150m for Haaland then goodbye. But as we all know there are conspiracy theories everywhere in football
Some of it is ridiculous. Haaland isn’t leaving nor will another club pay the money it takes to buy Haaland. That’s a non-story in my opinion.
My problem with this idea of letting say Haaland and Foden go, who are you realistically replacing them with? And if they do go the rebuilding process stretches out for longer. Haaland and Foden, while their form has dipped remain key players in this team. Replacing them is no easy task.
There is no replacement for Haaland. Not a viable one. And I don’t think there is any chance of Haaland going. He signed a 9 and a half year contract extension so that idea he can, or will go can go in the bin.
Foden will come good, he just needs time. We saw a glimpse of his best earlier this season. It will just take time and patience with Foden.
I am not suggesting letting Haaland go and agree the days of mad transfer fees don’t exist even in the Saudi leagues now. I agree with you I can’t see Haaland going unless of course he wants to. I think his hang dog look when he comes off feeds into the fans paranoia! Foden is a mystery and Pep no longer seems to have a place or part for him. I wonder if it is personality. He has always been a free spirit ,playing with the “big lads”. Now the likes of KDB has gone he is at 25 expected to now step up and lead as he is now a senior player. I think it may be causing a confusion but who knows. The CFG is too big to fail so the future is bright.
