Heading into this weekend’s clash with Brighton it did briefly appear that Manchester City’s injury situation may have been improving. The selection of Jack Grealish in Lee Carsley’s England squad did give the impression that Grealish may return at Amex Stadium. But Pep Guardiola has quickly extinguished that hope during his pre-game press conference earlier today.
Pep Guardiola was asked about Manchester City’s injury situation ahead of his team’s clash with Brighton. He told the media that the same squad that took on Sporting CP would take on Fabian Hurzeler’s side. Guardiola told the media: “There is no good news. We have the same [players available] as we did for Lisbon. The players that travelled, still they are there.”
Based on Pep Guardiola’s statement, John Stones, Ruben Dias, Jack Grealish, Oscar Bobb, and Rodri will all miss the match against Brighton. All five are out with injuries. There is hope that John Stones, Ruben Dias and Jack Grealish could return after the international break.

The selection of Jack Grealish in the England squad now appears even more baffling. The winger was selected in Lee Carsley’s squad for England’s Nations League matches against the Republic of Ireland and Greece. When asked about the selection of Grealish for England Pep Guardiola said that it is a question that Lee Carsley can answer before quickly moving on.
This is what Pep Guardiola had to say about Jack Grealish in today’s press conference. 🤔

It did appear that there would be a chance of Jack Grealish returning this weekend. But that has been extinguished. It also doesn’t make sense for England to select Grealish if he isn’t fit to play. That situation will become clear over the next few days. Manchester City’s injury situation hasn’t changed and they will take on Brighton without 5 players at the Amex Stadium.
