After the sale of Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid last summer it left Manchester City with only one recognised striker for this season. Erling Haaland has been tasked with leading the line on his own for Pep Guardiola’s side. As usual, the goals have flowed for Haaland so far this season. But if late he has appeared to be tiring under the heavy workload of late. On top of another midfielder, the world champions do appear to need another striker in January. Now a new report indicates that City may be planning to bring in another attacker in January.
Danny Rust and Dean Jones have reported for GIVEMESPORT that Manchester City are increasingly likely to sign another attacking player in January. Furthermore, Rust and Jones added that this shift was a major U-turn from City’s transfer policy last summer. The world champions decided against signing another striker last summer after Julian Alvarez left the club. Lastly, the report from Rust and Jones states that Pep Guardiola would settle for a striker who would be happy to be a backup to Erling Haaland and not command first-team minutes.
Manchester City do need another striker and it appears that they are planning to bring one in.
As good as Erling Haaland is he does need support up front. He can’t carry the entire goal-scoring burden for Manchester City. The loss of Julian Alvarez has proven to be costly for Pep Guardiola’s side. Alvarez could give Haaland the rest he requires and he could play alongside City’s number 9. The fact that Alvarez could also play in midfield was also an added bonus. While Manchester City picked up a sizable transfer fee for Alvarez his departure did leave a hole in City’s squad. To date, it hasn’t been filled.
But finding a player who would be happy to come in as a backup to Erling Haaland is no easy task. Generally, most players want to play. That’s to be expected, especially by top strikers. But it isn’t an impossible task to find a striker who would be happy to play for Pep Guardiola’s side. Last summer Manchester City were linked with a move for Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi. Sky Sports reported that City did have an interest in the Japanese international last summer. A player like Kyogo would be the ideal addition to City’s squad. A player who is a proven goalscorer and one who would not cause any issues off the pitch. If Manchester City can find that type of player in January it would be the ideal addition to Pep Guardiola’s squad.
It does appear that Manchester City will look for another striker in January. GIVEMESPORT’s reports suggest the champions will look to do so in a few months time. If they can land one it would strengthen City’s squad and give Erling Haaland the support he needs over the final months of the 24/25 season.
