Three Manchester City players fail to train ahead of Sporting clash

As Manchester City trained ahead of their UEFA Champions League league phase clash with Sporting Lisbon all eyes were on who wouldn’t take part in training today. City’s training session was broadcast live on mancity.com. There were three players who failed to train today which would appear to rule them out of the upcoming clash with Ruben Amorim’s side.

Jack Grealish, John Stones and Ruben Dias all failed to train. This news was also confirmed on X by Joe Bray of Manchester Evening News. In good news for the world champions Nathan Ake and Manuel Akanji trained ahead of the match. The pair played under duress during City’s 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday.

In more positive news for Pep Guardiola’s side, Kevin De Bruyne and Jeremy Doku were pictured training yesterday. Both players returned to the City squad for the defeat to Bournemouth. Jeremy Doku was a late substitute in the match. Kevin De Bruyne was an unused substitute at the Vitality Stadium. Speaking after City’s defeat Pep Guardiola told the media that he would take no risks with Kevin De Bruyne’s fitness. The club legend is slowly building his way back to a return to the pitch.

A further update on the status of the Manchester City squad is expected when Pep Guardiola fronts the media this evening. But as it stands Ruben Dias, Jack Grealish and John Stones won’t make the trip to Portugal.
