Tonight will see the Ballon d’Or winner crowned. Manchester City star Rodri is one of the favourites for the award alongside Real Madrid’s electric winger Vinicius Junior. But a new report indicates that Vinicius Junior and Real Madrid’s contingent won’t attend tonight’s Ballon d’Or ceremony. Does that mean that Rodri is set to claim the Ballon d’Or? If the new report is correct it may hint at who will claim the Ballon d’Or later tonight.
Fabrizio Romano has reported via X that Vinicius Junior will not attend tonight’s Ballon d’Or ceremony. Furthermore, Romano adds that no one from Real Madrid will attend the ceremony.
With the news breaking that Vinicius Junior and the Real Madrid entourage won’t attend tonight’s Ballon d’Or ceremony does that mean that Rodri is set to take out the prestigious award? Rodri was at the heart of all that was good for Manchester City and Spain last season. If he is to win the Ballon d’Or he would be more than worthy recipient of the award. Perhaps there was a case for Jude Bellingham to claim the award, but with Romano reporting that no one from Real Madrid will attend the ceremony, it does appear that the path is clear for Rodri to create history. If he does he would have earned the award with his sensational play for both club and country.

No one from Manchester City has won the Ballon d’Or while playing for the club. Erling Haaland finished second to Lionel Messi last year. That is the closest a City player has come to winning the award. It now appears that the path is clear for Rodri to create history later tonight. It now remains to be seen if Romano’s report is correct and to see if Rodri takes out the Ballon d’Or.
