Following their 5-nil win over Sparta Prague, Manchester City takes on Southampton in Premier League action this Saturday at the Etihad. The games are coming thick and fast for the world champions. Despite City having a host of players out with injury there is no time to dwell on who is unavailable. It’s a matter of just focusing on the next match for Pep Guardiola’s side.
As it stands Manchester City will have 5 players unavailable for Saturday’s match. Jack Grealish, Jeremy Doku, Rodri, Oscar Bobb and Kyle Walker will all miss the Southampton clash due to injury. Kevin De Bruyne has returned to training but his availability is unknown. A further update is expected on his status for Saturday’s match when Pep Guardiola fronts the media later today.
Southampton will arrive at the Etihad on Saturday having made a poor start to the season. They currently sit 19th in the Premier League table. The Saints have struggled so far this season. They haven’t appeared to handle the step up from the Championship after being promoted last season. Southampton will also enter Saturday’s match with manager Russell Martin under pressure. After their winless start to the new campaign questions have been asked about Martin’s tactics and suitability for the job. Martin will be hoping that his team can upset the world champions at the Etihad to release the pressure on himself and his team.
This is the backdrop that Manchester City will face on Saturday. Despite having several key players out Pep Guardiola’s side will be determined to pick up another three points. Southampton will be eager to kick start their season so there is no rest for City. As the games come thick and fast there is no let up for Manchester City. That’s just how they like it.
