Another injury blow strikes Manchester City as a winger faces a spell on the sidelines

Manchester City are currently suffering an injury crisis throughout their squad. They will be without six players for their Premier League clash with Southampton at the Etihad. Rodri, Oscar Bobb, Kevin De Bruyne, Kyle Walker, Jack Grealish and Jeremy Doku are out of the match at the Etihad. Now Pep Guardiola has revealed how long Jeremy Doku is likely to be out for. The news is yet another blow for the world champions.

Speaking in the embargoed section of his pre-game press conference ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Southampton Pep Guardiola was asked about how long Jeremy Doku and Jack Grealish will be out for. The City manager revealed that Grealish should be back before the next international break. The news wasn’t as good on Jeremy Doku’s condition. When asked if the pair would be back before the international break Pep Guardiola said: “Jack, yeah, I hope so. I hope so, but Jeremy I don’t think so.

Guardiola also revealed when the pair were injured. He added: “Jack was in training, the day after (Wolves), in one action. And Jeremy I think was Wolves.

The news of Jeremy Doku likely being out until the international break is a blow for Manchester City. Doku had started the season well and is a crucial attacking option for the world champions. The news that he is likely out for a significant period of time does open up opportunities for other players to shine.

Matheus Nunes seized his opportunity to step up in Doku and Grealish’s absence against Sparta Prague. The Portuguese international put in a man-of-the-match display from the left wing on Wednesday evening. While it is a blow for City to lose the pair, their misfortune does give Nunes the chance to stake his claim for more regular minutes. That is the silver lining in Manchester City’s injury crisis.
