Pep Guardiola is expecting a tough game against Wolves and Manchester City will likely be tested at Molineux

Manchester City will take on Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday at Molineux. The Premier League clash between the two teams will see second-placed City take on bottom-of-the-table Wolves. But despite Gary O’Neill’s side only having picked up 1 point in their 7 games Pep Guardiola is expecting a tough game at Molineux on Sunday.

Speaking during his pre-game press conference yesterday Pep Guardiola knows Manchester City always face a tough game at Molineux. The City manager believes that Gary O’Neill’s side haven’t been as bad this season as their Premier League position suggests. Speaking about City’s opponents Guardiola said: “It’s always a tough game with Wolves, dating back to the time of Nuno. During the international break, I took time to watch their matches. I think they have less points than they deserve.

Matters off the pitch have dominated the headlines surrounding Manchester City over the international break. Pep Guardiola’s future has been a hot topic in recent days. But the City manager is focused on Wolves and nothing more as he reminded the media when speaking asked about his future yesterday. Guardiola told the media when asked about his long-term plans: “Wolves is my priority and my players how they come back from the international teams. That is my only concern. I said many times I didn’t take a decision already and when I take it, I will inform you 100%. That’s why there is no news, and I don’t have to add anything else.

Wolves squad is packed with quality and Pep Guardiola is right they shouldn’t sit last on the Premier League table.

There is no doubt that Wolves have started the 24/25 season poorly. They have only picked up one point in their opening seven league games. That is a poor start to a campaign in anyone’s books. But Gary O’Neill’s side are capable of playing good football when they are on their game. A quick look at their squad shows there is quality in their ranks.

In Nelson Semedo and Rayan Aït-Nouri Wolves do possess two quality full-backs. The pair are especially dangerous going forward and must be contained by Manchester City. Across midfield is arguably the strongest department in Wolves squad. Mario Lemina, João Gomes and Andre pack a punch in midfield. Matheus Cunha can be a formidable presence up front for Gary O’Neill’s side when he is on his game. On paper, Wolves do look to have more quality than their lowly league position suggests.

Pep Guardiola is right Manchester City should expect a tough game at Molineux on Sunday. Gary O’Neill’s side will be desperate for their first win of the 24/25 season. It will likely take City’s best to stop the hosts building any momentum in front of their home fans on Sunday.
