Could two players return from injury for Manchester City this week?

Following the international break Manchester City will take on Wolves at Molineux in the Premier League. So far this season the champions have lost several key players to injury. Rodri and Oscar Bobb are sidelined for significant periods of time with their injuries. But could this weekend see the return of Kevin De Bruyne and Nathan Ake? Based on Pep Guardiola’s comments before the international break that could be a realistic proposition.

Pep Guardiola told the media before City’s 4-nil over Slovan Bratislava that he was hopeful of having Kevin De Bruyne back after the international break. The Belgian international suffered a groin injury during City’s nil-all draw with Inter Milan. He has subsequently missed City’s past 5 games due to the injury.

The case of Nathan Ake is slightly different to that of De Bruyne. Ake limped off during the Netherlands 2-all UEFA Nations League draw with Germany in September. The hamstring injury he suffered has kept him out of action ever since. Speaking after City’s 3-2 win over Fulham Guardiola revealed that he was expecting Ake back after the international break. Ake’s return would be a boost for Manchester City.

The world champions could be boosted by the return of Ake and De Bruyne this week. Attention will shift to Manchester City training later this week to see if the duo do return to training. They will have crucial roles to play for Pep Guardiola so the hope is that they both are seen training this week.

A further update is expected on the duo’s condition is expected when Pep Guardiola faces the media on Friday. The hope is that De Bruyne and Ake both can make the City squad for the clash with Wolves.
