But a tough test awaits the world champions in a hostile environment. Here is the latest City team news and predicted starting lineup ahead of today’s match.

Latest City team news

Manchester City will take on Newcastle without several key players. Oscar Bobb and Nathan Ake are out with long-term injuries and are out of today’s match.

Joining them on the long-term injury list is Rodri. City’s midfield general is out for the remainder of the season with a knee injury. Pep Guardiola confirmed yesterday that Rodri will miss the rest of the 24/25 season.

Kevin De Bruyne is also out of today’s game. The Belgian international sustained an injury during City’s nil-all draw with Inter Milan. Pep Guardiola told the media yesterday that he is unsure when. De Bruyne will return.

Predicted City starting eleven

Ederson- He was rested against Watford and should resume in goal today.

Kyle Walker- Walker has been named City’s captain for this season. The England international may start today to deal with Newcastle’s pace out wide.

Manuel Akanji- At this stage of the season the Swiss international is an automatic selection.

Ruben Dias- Dias has started the season strongly, and his partnership with Akanji is arguably City’s strongest centre-back pairing.

Josko Gvardiol- The Croatian international has become City’s number one left-back. That fact should see him start today.

Mateo Kovacic- With Rodri out for the season Kovacic will have a huge role to play this season. He has started the season strongly and should start today.

Rico Lewis- With Rodri out Pep Guardiola will be looking for solutions to cover his absence. Today could be the day when Lewis moves into midfield, where he seems best suited as a player.

Bernardo Silva- The industry and technical ability Bernardo provides could be crucial for City today. I expect him to start over Phil Foden in the heart of City’s midfield.

Jack Grealish- Grealish has looked like the Grealish of old so far this season. Today’s game could be the ideal game for the England international to start based on his work rate and technical ability.

Savinho- The Brazilian international has begun his City career in sparkling form. I expect him to start on City’s right-wing today.

Erling Haaland- After missing City’s midweek win over Watford due to personal reasons Haaland should start today. He could be the match-winner based on his strong start to the season.
