Pep Guardiola confirms that Rodri’s season is over due to the knee injury he suffered against Arsenal

Pep Guardiola has today confirmed that Rodri’s 24/25 season is over. The Spanish international limped off with a knee injury during City’s 2-all draw against Arsenal last Sunday. Now the City manager has confirmed that City must soldier on without their midfield general.

Speaking during his pre-game press conference ahead of tomorrow’s Premier League encounter with Newcastle Pep Guardiola was asked about Rodri’s injury. The City manager confirmed that Rodri had surgery this morning on his injured knee. He added that City’s midfield general is now out for the season: “He had surgery this morning, ACL and some meniscus, we think. Next season he will be with us. This season is over. Unfortunately, we got the worst news, but that is what happened; we will be there to support him and move forward step by step.

Manchester City begin life without Rodri against Newcastle tomorrow. The game at St. James Park will provide Pep Guardiola’s side with a tough test without Rodri. Newcastle are a formidable opponent at St. James Park and will be keen to hand City their first loss of the 24/25 season. But Manchester City have overcome adversity before and will be eager to do so this season. The challenge is now there for City’s midfielders to step up in Rodri’s absence.

As for Rodri, it is sad news to see the midfielder ruled out for the season. He is one of the best midfielders in world football and his importance to both club and country is well known. He now has a long road ahead of him as he begins recovery from knee surgery.
