Manchester City will take on Inter Milan tonight in their opening UEFA Champions League league phase fixture. The game at the Etihad Stadium promises to be a hotly contested affair based on the pedigree of both teams. Tonight’s match will see the Premier League champions take on last season’s Serie A winners. It promises to be an enthralling fixture between arguably two of the best teams in Europe.
Latest Manchester City team news
There appeared to be positive news on the injury front for Manchester City ahead of tonight’s match. Savinho and Phil Foden both trained yesterday. That is good news for the world champions. Whether or not both start tonight won’t be known until the starting lineups are announced ahead of kickoff. But the fact that both players appear to be available is a boost for Pep Guardiola’s side.
The only two players who are unavailable for Manchester City are Nathan Ake and Oscar Bobb. Both players are out for a significant period of time and won’t feature tonight.
Predicted Manchester City starting lineup
Ederson- The Brazilian international played well against Brentford and he is almost certain to start tonight’s match.
Rico Lewis- I believe Lewis has become City’s first-choice right-back and should start against Inter. If he does, it will be a test for the youngster, but he is more than capable of performing against the very best.
Ruben Dias- The Portuguese international should return to City’s starting lineup against Simone Inzaghi’s side. He has started the season in strong form and his growing partnership with Akanji looks to be City’s best centre-back pairing to start the season.
Manuel Akanji- Akanji has almost become an automatic selection for Pep Guardiola. Based on the fact alone he should start alongside Ruben Dias.
Josko Gvardiol- The Croatian international showed during City’s win over Brentford how important he is to the world champions. Gvardiol is City’s first-choice left-back and will likely take his place in the starting lineup tonight.
Rodri- City’s midfield general player in the second half of City’s win over Brentford. He looked sharp and should start tonight given how important he is to the world champions.
Bernardo Silva- The champions missed Bernardo’s energy against Brentford. He always starts big games for Pep Guardiola and tonight should be no exception.
Kevin De Bruyne- Another player who has started the new season in strong form. He will have a massive role to play against Inter, and he could be key to unlocking the Serie A champion’s defence.
Phil Foden- The England international has made a slow start to the new season. Illness has seen him miss the beginning of this season. Tonight’s match could be the perfect stage for Foden to return to the starting lineup.
Jack Grealish- He played well against Brentford, and based on Inter’s strengths, Grealish should start at the Etihad.
Erling Haaland- Haaland will no doubt start tonight’s match. He is in arguably the best form of his City career and will be looking to continue that at the Etihad.
