Manchester City maintained their 100% winning record in the Premier League yesterday with a 2-1 win against Brentford. A brace from Erling Haaland was enough for the world champions to see off a determined effort from the Bees. But did the champions pick up a fresh injury concern during the final stages of yesterday’s match?
During the closing stages of yesterday’s win, Savinho went down clutching his right hamstring. The Brazilian international did look in some discomfort after picking up the injury. He was replaced by Matheus Nunes in second-half stoppage time moments after he picked up the apparent injury. The Brazilian winger’s fitness now appears to be of some concern ahead of City’s opening UEFA Champions League fixture against Inter Milan later this week.
There was no update on the status of Savinho provided by Pep Guardiola following Manchester City’s win. The Manchester City manager wasn’t asked about the condition of the exciting winger during his post-game press conference. If there was an injury of note picked up by the Brazilian international, then the next opportunity for an update from the City manager will be during his pre-game press conference ahead of City’s clash with Inter Milan later this week.
Savinho put in another quality performance yesterday at the Etihad. Outside of Erling Haaland he was arguably City’s most dangerous option going forward. His dribbling was a highlight and with some better finishing ha may have scored his first goal for the club yesterday. But overall Savinho put in another good display yesterday at the Etihad.
The hope is that if Savinho did pick up an injury yesterday that it isn’t a serious issue. With Oscar Bobb out for the foreseeable future the Brazilian has a vital role to play for the champions.
