Manchester City stars were again in action for their countries yesterday

Yesterday saw a host of Manchester City players once again in action for their countries. Here is a brief report on how City’s players performed on another busy night of international football.

Spain 4 Switzerland 1.

Manuel Akanji and Rodri both started for Switzerland and Spain, respectively, in Spain’s 4-1 win over Switzerland. The match was an eventful and entertaining affair at the Stade De Geneve. A brace from Fabian Ruiz and goals from Joselu and Ferran Torres was enough to see Spain overcome Switzerland. Zeki Amdouni scored for the Swiss, who went down to a heavy defeat against Spain, who played the majority of the game with 10 men. Robin Le Normand was sent off in the 21st minute for Spain.

From a Manchester City point of view, Manuel Akanji got through 90 minutes for Switzerland. He performed well at the back despite Switzerland’s heavy defeat.

Rodri got through 58 minutes before being substituted. After only returning to training before City’s win over West Ham the news that Rodri started for his country is good news for Manchester City.

Croatia 1 Poland 0.

Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol both started for Croatia in their 1-nil UEFA Nations League win over Poland. A second-half Luka Modric free-kick was enough for Croatia to pick up the victory.

Josko Gvardiol got through the full 90 minutes for Croatia as he did his job well at the back. Mateo Kovacic played 79 minutes before being substituted in Croatia’s win.

Portugal 2 Scotland 1.

Lastly, Ruben Dias and Bernardo Silva both played 90 minutes in Portugal’s 2-1 win over Scotland. Scott McTominay opened the scoring for Scotland with a fantastic header in the 7th minute. Portugal would complete a comeback win in the second half with goals from Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo enough to see Portugal pick up all three points in their UEFA Nations League clash.
