Last summer’s transfer window was a quiet one in terms of incoming players for Manchester City. The champions added Savinho and Ilkay Gundogan to Pep Guardiola’s squad for the 24/25 season. It was a quiet transfer window in that regard for the champions. They also sold a host of players to bring in a sizable amount of incoming transfer revenue to boost the club’s coffers. With that in mind, is Manchester City planning something big next summer? That can’t be ruled out based on how far ahead the world champions plan their transfer dealings.
Charlie Parker-Turner has reported for The Express that Manchester City could splash the cash in 2025. Furthermore, Parker-Turner reports that the champions are plotting moves for German internationals Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala. Parker-Turner adds that a move for either player would set Manchester City back a transfer fee of over £100 million each to secure their services.
Manchester City are always planning in regards to transfers and the new report indicates City are looking to spend big next summer.
First of all, it must be said that there is little to no chance that either Florian Wirtz or Jamal Musiala will move in January. It is also included in Charlie Parker-Turner’s report that City could spend big in January if required. While that isn’t out of the question, moves for Wirtz or Musiala are likely moves that City will have to wait until next summer to make.
But if Manchester City are planning something big next summer a move for Wirtz or Musiala would fall into that category. Parker-Turner also reports that City haven’t ruled out a move for both next summer. If they were to make that bold a move next summer, it would be a massive move for Manchester City to make in the market. Whether or not City could realistically sign the pair remains to be seen. But the clues have been there for some time that City are planning for next summer.
It’s no secret that City will need to regenerate their midfield in time. That fact has been well established. Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz are two players who could help replenish City’s midfield stocks. They are both young with their best football ahead of them. That is saying something given the level they play at for both club and country.
But to move for one or both of them City will need to spend big. Figures published on transfermarkt.com show that City brought in €141 million last summer from player sales. Transfermarkt.com also shows that Savinho was City’s only significant outlay last summer. The champions have laid the foundation for a big spending summer in 2025.
It appears that Manchester City could be planning something big next summer. Moving for either Florian Wirtz or Jamal Musiala or both would fall into that category. There is still a lot to play out before either scenarios become a reality. But the clues do point to Manchester City planning something big next summer. Once the 24/25 season is complete in roughly 10 months will it become apparent what the champions have planned.
