It is a well-known fact that Manchester City are always planning for the future with their transfer targets. The world champions identify and monitor their ideal targets well in advance of making any move for any particular player. Now, a new report indicates that England international Marc Guehi is reportedly in City’s sights. The Crystal Palace defender could be a player Manchester City target to refresh their defence in time.
Sami Mokbel has reported for the Daily Mail that Manchester City are keeping an eye on how Marc Guehi could develop as a player. Furthermore, Mokbel adds that the England international has less than two years to run on his current contract. It is also included in Mokbel’s report that Guehi is stalling on signing a new contract with Crystal Palace. Lastly, Mokbel adds that while Newcastle failed to land Guehi last summer the defender does fancy a move to a club in the UEFA Champions League. That situation could play into City’s hands in the future.
Manchester City are well stocked for central defenders but Guehi could be an option to regenerate City’s defence.
As it stands, currently, Pep Guardiola’s squad is well stocked for central defenders. Ruben Dias, John Stones, Manuel Akanji and Nathan Ake are all quality defenders. Each player knows their defensive role for Manchester City and has played a key role in City’s recent success. But the world champions may look to refresh their defence shortly.
John Stones is 30 years of age and was hampered by injuries last season. Nathan Ake is 29 years of age and is still an elite performer for Manchester City. But if the champions do look to refresh their defence in the future Marc Guehi may be the ideal player to come into City’s squad. He is 24 years old and has proven himself as a quality defender. His performances for both Crystal Palace and England show just how good a player he already is. If Manchester City do seek to refresh their defence he looks to be a quality option. There is still a fair bit to play out for that possibility to become a realistic option but Sami Mokbel’s report indicates that Manchester City may be considering the possibility.
It would appear that Manchester City are keeping an eye on how Marc Guehi progresses as a player. It will be interesting to see if the champions do see the England international as a player who potentially regenerate their defence in time.
