Manchester City’s recent dominance is reflected in the Ballon d’Or nominations

Manchester City’s dominance of the 23/24 season has been reflected in the Ballon d’Or nominations that were announced yesterday. Pep Guardiola’s side has four players named as nominees for the prestigious award. Pep Guardiola and Savinho were also among the nominees for the Men’s Coach of the Year and Kopa Trophy.

Last season saw Manchester City win the Premier League, FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup. Throughout last year there was a host of outstanding individual performances from City’s players. Four of those players were rewarded with a Ballon d’Or nomination yesterday. Rodri, Ruben Dias, Phil Foden and Erling Haaland all saw their strong form rewarded.

Of the Manchester City players nominated for the award, Rodri would have to be one of the favourites to take out the Ballon d’Or. Manchester City’s midfield general has been a key player for both club and country. His importance to both cannot be downplayed. He will surely be one of the main contenders for the award. Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham of Real Madrid look to be his main competition for the crown.

Pep Guardiola was nominated for the Best Men’s Coach of 2024 yesterday. He will be looking to make it back-to-back wins in the category following on from his 2023 win. The Manchester City manager guided his team to another historical season last campaign. He took City to their maiden UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup triumphs last season. Guardiola’s Manchester City side also claimed a record-breaking fourth consecutive Premier League title last season.

Manchester City are also nominated for the Club of the Year Award. They will also be looking to repeat their 2023 success by claiming the award again.

Finally new Manchester City signing Savinho was also nominated for the Kopa Trophy. The Brazilian international was nominated for his exploits with Girona last campaign. That strong form saw him become a Brazilian international and laid the foundation for his move to Manchester City this summer.
