A Manchester City legend has started the season superbly but the topic of his future looms in the background

Manchester City legend Kevin De Bruyne has started the 24/25 season in magnificent form. Across City’s first three games of the Premier League season, the Belgian international has looked as dangerous as ever on the pitch. Based on his start to the season it’s a fair assumption to draw that De Bruyne looks set to be a key contributor once again for Manchester City. But while his play is getting all of the plaudits the future of the Manchester City legend is a topic that will rumble away in the background until it is resolved.

Kevin De Bruyne looks fit and refreshed for the 24/25 season.

What has stood out about Kevin De Bruyne’s play this season is how relaxed and refreshed he has looked. Across City’s first three Premier League games the Manchester City legend appears to be as good as ever. An extended summer looks have been the best thing for De Bruyne after last summer’s European Championships.

As mentioned yesterday a slight change of role has seen De Bruyne shine during the early stages of this season. He has alternated between the left wing and midfield duties. This subtle change to De Bruyne’s role has seen him get into the pockets of space he thrives in. It was a standout feature of City’s win over West Ham at the London Stadium. In the first half the constant swapping of roles between Grealish and De Bruyne caused the Hammers defence all sorts of issues. The change of role for De Bruyne was also on display against Chelsea and Ipswich Town.

It has been a tactical masterstroke by Pep Guardiola to maximise the abilities of Kevin De Bruyne in the early stages of this season. Based on De Bruyne’s performances there is no reason to believe that his impressive start to the season cannot continue.

De Bruyne’s future is a topic of discussion until a decision is made on his next move.

But despite De Bruyne’s strong start to the season, his future could become a topic to ponder throughout the season. The Manchester City legend is in the final year of his contract. That in itself isn’t a massive cause for concern given De Bruyne’s age. But his status in the game and at Manchester City makes it a topic to monitor going forward.

Speaking after Manchester City’s win over West Ham in an interview relayed by Joe Bray for Manchester Evening News De Bruyne is relaxed about his future. He said he enjoyed his break this summer which has set the scene for his strong start to the new campaign. He said: “I haven’t spoken to anyone, to be honest. There has been a lot of noises and news. I said in the summer I expect a quiet summer and that’s actually what happened. I’ve been on holiday for four weeks, came back and started training. That was it. Nothing to tell. I’ve not been entertained by anybody or spoken to anybody. I wanted to chill out, nothing came, so I came back and train.

The Manchester City legend also is in no rush to decide on his future. He added that the time will come when he will discuss his future with Manchester City but there is no rush on those discussions. He added: “I just want to start well and play football. Once the season goes on, I’m sure there will be conversations to be had with City. It was the transfer market, I don’t want to be busy with that. I just want to feel good and play good football, and this will come in the upcoming months. I don’t really feel the rush for the moment.

Summary

Kevin De Bruyne has started the new season in fine form. He looks back to his best and that is great news for Pep Guardiola’s side.

His future is also a topic that will rumble away in the background this season. But it will resolve itself in time but based on De Bruyne’s strong start to the season he will likely remain at the world champions. While he is at his best and still playing at a high level there is no need to rush the exit of De Bruyne from Manchester City.
