Pep Guardiola has provided an injury update on a trio of City’s key players

Pep Guardiola has provided an update on the status of a key trio of players ahead of Manchester City’s clash with West Ham at the London Stadium. Mateo Kovacic, Rodri and Phil Foden are the trio concerned and Guardiola provided some clarity around the injury status of each player today.

Speaking during his pre-game press conference ahead of tomorrow’s clash with West Ham Pep Guardiola was asked about the status of the trio. He had positive news on the condition of Mateo Kovacic and Rodri. The news on Phil Foden wasn’t as positive. Guardiola told the media: “Rodri is much better. (Mateo) Kovacic as well. Phil (Foden) still doesn’t feel good. The rest are OK.

Pep Guardiola’s update on the status of Rodri and Mateo Kovacic is good news for Manchester City. Rodri returned to training this week following a hamstring injury. City’s midfield general suffered the injury during Spain’s win over England in the Euro 24 final. An educated guess would be that Rodri would return to the bench for tomorrow’s match.

Mateo Kovacic suffered a hip injury during the early stages of the second half of City’s 4-1 win over Ipswich Town. He was substituted after a robust challenge from former Manchester City striker Liam Delap. But he was pictured training with the City squad earlier this week and looks set to resume his role in midfield for tomorrow’s match.

Pep Guardiola’s update on the condition of Phil Foden appears to be a cause for concern. The England international missed last weekend’s win over Ipswich Town due to illness. It appears from Guardiola’s update that Foden may be in doubt for tomorrow’s match which would be a blow for the world champions.
