Manchester City learn their Carabao Cup third round opponent

Manchester City has learnt their Carabao Cup third round opponent overnight. Pep Guardiola’s side will take on Watford at the Etihad Stadium in the third round of the tournament.

Watford are an opponent that Manchester City know well in recent seasons. They have dominated the Hornets in recent times winning their past 15 games against Watford in all competitions. City have won on aggregate 58-8 over those 15 games. It is rare to see a side have that much dominance over an opponent. Most famously Pep Guardiola’s side beat Watford 6-nil in the 2019 FA Cup final. That win saw Manchester City complete a domestic treble in a feat that has only been achieved once in English football history.

The tie between Manchester City and Watford is set to take place either on the week beginning on September 16 or September 23. Pep Guardiola’s side are currently preparing for this weekend’s clash against West Ham at the London Stadium. Following that match their is an international break. After that break the season will ramp up with the Carabao Cup and UEFA Champions League set to get underway. The world champions will be hoping for a good Carabao Cup run to give their squad players a run out this season. The full draw for the third round of the Carabao Cup can be seen below.
