Manchester City vs Ipswich Town: Latest City team news and predicted City starting lineup

Manchester City are in action later today when they take on Ipswich Town at the Etihad Stadium. The champions will be aiming to build upon their impressive opening weekend victory over Chelsea. They will face the newly promoted Tractor Boys who will be hungry to make an impression against Pep Guardiola’s side. City’s home opener could also feature the return of Ilkay Gundogan who completed his move back to Manchester City yesterday. Here is the latest City team news and predicted starting lineup ahead of today’s match.

Manchester City team news.

The champions look set to be without Rodri for today’s match. Pep Guardiola told the media yesterday that City’s midfield general is yet to return to training. Based on that information, there appears to be no chance of Rodri featuring in City’s squad today.

Savinho looks set to take part in today’s game. The Brazilian winger has trained this week after being substituted at half-time against Chelsea with a knee injury. Pep Guardiola informed the media that a decision on whether or not Savinho would start today’s game would be made after Manchester City trained yesterday.

Predicted Manchester City starting lineup

Ederson- Manchester City’s number-one keeper should take his place in goal today. There doesn’t appear to be any reason for a change of keepers for today’s match.

Rico Lewis- Based on the performance of Lewis against Chelsea he should start today. Kyle Walker is back and should be fit enough to play but Lewis has earned the right-back spot for today’s match.

Ruben Dias- Dias has started the season with two strong performances. That should see him start today against Ipswich Town.

Nathan Ake- The Dutch international could get his first start of the season at the Etihad. It’s a toss-up between Akanji, Stones and Ake to partner Dias in defence but I’ll go with Ake.

Josko Gvardiol- The Croatian is City’s first-choice left-back and should start again today.

Mateo Kovacic- After his man-of-the-match display against Chelsea Kovacic appears to be an automatic selection.

Bernardo Silva- Despite the return of Ilkay Gundogan to Manchester City Bernardo should start today. He was superb against Chelsea and should partner Kovacic in midfield.

Kevin De Bruyne- The Belgian international had his moments against Chelsea. That should see him start again today.

Savinho- Provided he is declared fit to start I expect the Brazilian international to line up on City’s right wing. His first-half showing against Chelsea more than warrants another start for the talented young winger.

Jack Grealish- While Doku was dynamic against Chelsea it does appear to be the perfect game for Grealish to start. If he does, he will be eager to start his 24/25 season with an impressive performance.

Erling Haaland- Haaland is an automatic selection for today’s match. He looked sharp at Stamford Bridge and will be hoping for another good performance today.
