Is a problem for Manchester City about to be resolved?

One problem Manchester City faced this summer was what to do with Joao Cancelo. It has appeared for some time that his future lies away from the Etihad. After consecutive loan spells at Bayern Munich and then Barcelona there appeared to be little chance of the full-back returning to be a part of Pep Guardiola’s squad. But a solution to City’s Cancelo problem may have arrived. A new report indicates that Al Hilal have submitted a bid for the Portuguese international.

Fabrizio Romano has reported via X that Al Hilal have submitted a formal bid to sign Joao Cancelo. Furthermore, Romano adds that Cancelo is the first choice of Al Hilal manager Jorge Jesus to strengthen his squad. Lastly, Romano adds that negotiations are continuing between Manchester City and Al Hilal over a deal for Cancelo.

Just when it appeared that Joao Cancelo may be running out of options this summer, news of Al Hilal’s bid for the full-back may provide him with an exit from Manchester City. That would be the best move for both Cancelo and the world champions going forward.

For Cancelo it will provide him with an opportunity to start fresh in the Saudi Pro League. He will likely be rewarded handsomely financially for making the move to the Gulf State. It will also finally end his time at the world champions. Despite it recently being a frustrating time for Cancelo at the club he has contributed to City’s recent success.

Manchester City look set to finally get the Portuguese international off their books if a deal with Al Hilal is finalised. That would be a positive for the champions given what Joao Cancelo earns. To remove that salary from the club’s books is a win. If they receive a decent transfer fee for Cancelo that will be another bonus. It would also end the annual saga of where Joao Cancelo will play every summer.

A permanent move for Cancelo is best for both parties concerned. They can both move on and end the annual speculation over his future.
