Is a new contract on the horizon for Manchester City’s defensive leader?

There is little doubt that Manchester City’s defensive leader is Ruben Dias. Since arriving at the club from Benfica, Dias has established himself as one of the premier defenders in Europe. His influence on Pep Guardiola’s side is such that he looks to be a future captain of the club. There is little doubt over his standing at Manchester City. But heading into the 24/25 season is a new contract on the horizon for Manchester City’s defensive leader? A new report indicates that the champions are ready to extend the contract of Ruben Dias in the near future.

Steve Kay has reported for footballtransfers.com that Manchester City are determined to extend Ruben Dias’ contract with the club. Furthermore, Kay reports that City want Dias to sign a new deal that ends in 2030. Kay also reports that contract talks have begun between Manchester City and the Portuguese international. It is also included in Kay’s report that Dias has been seeking assurances about being named captain of Manchester City in the near future. Lastly, Kay adds Dias is also set to receive a pay rise if he signs a new contract.

Ruben Dias is one of Manchester City’s key players and he looks to be Manchester City’s captain in the near future.

Since arriving at Manchester City in September 2020 Ruben Dias has firmly established himself as one of City’s key players. He has been Manchester City’s rock at the back and he has also become one of the leaders amongst Pep Guardiola’s squad. During his time at the club, Dias has played an integral role in Manchester City’s dominance of English and European football.

There is also little doubt that Ruben Dias could potentially become the captain of Manchester City. He sets a high standard for his teammates to follow and his play is that of a natural leader. At times Dias resembles a leader in the manner of former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany. Both players are inspirational figures on the pitch, and that’s a stand-out attribute of their play. If Dias does land the captaincy role at Manchester City in the near future as Kay’s report suggests he will almost be the ideal player for the role.

It appears that a new contract is on the horizon for Manchester City’s defensive leader that is Ruben Dias. If he can agree on a new deal with the club it will set Manchester City’s defence up for seasons to come.
