Two more signings are apparently on the cards for Manchester City but are the areas of need obvious?

With the 24/25 season set to get underway this weekend the transfer window is still open for the next few weeks. While the focus of Manchester City is on the pitch it appears that the world champions are still looking to strengthen their squad this summer. A new report indicates that City are looking to sign two more players this summer. The areas of need in the Manchester City squad appear to be obvious. But could the champions pivot and strengthen another area of their squad? That could be a possibility based on how the champions do their business.

Ben Ransom has reported for SkySports that the world champions are aiming to make two more signings this summer. Furthermore, Ransom reports that that City has raised around £130 million this summer. Ransom also reports that the potential departures of Kalvin Phillips and Joao Cancelo could further boost City’s finances. Lastly, Ransom adds that Manchester City are happy with their current squad but are looking to strengthen in the coming weeks.

It appears that Manchester City need a midfielder and another attacker but could they swerve and target another position?

On close inspection, it appears obvious what areas Manchester City will look to strengthen in the coming weeks. Support for Rodri and a player who can replace the recently departed Julian Alvarez appear to be the main priorities. If Manchester City could find two players to fill those roles at the right price it would be a major win for the club this summer. But Manchester City do have a habit of buying the best player available regardless of their position. Could they do that again?

There doesn’t appear to be another major position of need in Pep Guardiola’s squad currently. Outside of another midfielder and another attacking player, City looks well-stocked for next season. They could perhaps do with another left-back but Nathan Ake and Josko Gvardiol have that position covered. The champions are loaded with quality centre-backs. The world champions don’t need another goalkeeper with Ederson and Stefan Ortega currently at the club. There are a host of quality options at Pep Guardiola’s disposal on the wings and to play as attacking midfielders. Based on this, Manchester City could make a surprise signing in another position, but it looks unlikely.

Based on the available evidence it appears that Manchester City will only look to add another midfielder and another attacking player this summer. There is always a small chance that they could pivot in the coming weeks but on closer inspection that appears unlikely. Who the players could be to add to City’s midfield and attack remains to be seen. But they are the only areas that appear to need strengthening for the world champions.
