Manchester City believe a Brazilian international is keen to join them but a City move appears unlikely

Over the last few weeks of the transfer window, it still appears that Manchester City need a midfielder to provide quality support for Rodri. It appears to be the one pressing need to complete Pep Guardiola’s squad. If City are to make a mark in the transfer market that time appears to be now. But who could Manchester City target to fill the role of providing cover for Rodri? That appears to be the question going forward.

Across the summer the world champions have been linked with a potential move for Brazilian international Bruno Guimaraes. A new report from Sam Lee for the Athletic indicates that Manchester City believe that the Newcastle midfielder is keen to join them. Furthermore, Lee adds that a deal between the two clubs may be difficult to complete, if not impossible.

A Manchester City move for Bruno Guimaraes makes sense but it does appear to be almost impossible to pull off.

There is no doubt that a player with the quality of Bruno Guimaraes would be an immense addition to Pep Guardiola’s squad. The Brazilian international is a proven Premier League player and one of the best midfielders in the Premier League. He has shown that during his time with Newcastle. Guimaraes is almost Newcastle’s most important player and it is doubtful that they will sanction a sale of the Brazilian international so late in the transfer window.

A report from Pete O’Rourke for footballinsider247.com indicates that the chances of Manchester City signing Guimaraes are slim. O’Rourke reports that Eddie Howe is highly unlikely to sanction the sale of the Brazilian midfielder so late in the transfer window. Furthermore, O’Rourke reports that Guimaraes is happy to stay at Newcastle. O’Rourke’s report suggests that there is little chance for Manchester City signing Guimaraes this summer.

The idea of Bruno Guimaraes signing for Manchester City is an exciting proposition. There is no doubt that the midfielder would be a fine addition to Pep Guardiola’s squad. As Sam Lee’s report the Brazilian international may well be keen to join City. But all the evidence suggests that the chances of that move happening are slim. Based on that the champions may have to look elsewhere in their search to find quality support for Rodri.
