At the beginning of the summer, it appeared that Manchester City may be on the hunt for a new goalkeeper. Both Ederson and Stefan Ortega’s futures at the club were in doubt at the end of last season. But ahead of today’s FA Community Shield clash with Manchester United, it appears that City’s keeping situation is resolved ahead of the new season.
Speaking during his pre-game press conference yesterday Pep Guardiola told the media he was relieved to have both Ederson and Stefan Ortega at the club this season. He spoke of the importance of Ederson to the success of Manchester City in recent seasons. He told the media: “It’s a huge relief that Eddie (Ederson) and Stefan (Ortega) stay.” Guardiola also had special praise for Ederson’s contribution to the club. He added: “You can’t understand this unbelievable process we’ve lived these many, many years without Ederson, it’s impossible. His charisma, his consistency and to replace the keeper always is tricky with the way we play and many things. So, I’m really pleased he’s staying and, of course, Stefan. Congratulations he deserves the contract, not for the save against Spurs but for the (whole) two years, how good he’s been in the cup competitions.”
Manchester City will have two quality keepers once again for the 24/25 season.

Ederson is basically a midfielder in goal, which is crucial to how Manchester City plays. He is also one of the best keepers in world football. That makes him one of the world champions’ most valuable assets.
With the goalkeeping situation appearing resolved Manchester City can focus on the 24/25 season. They will do so knowing they have two quality keepers in their ranks. That has been one of Manchester City’s most underrated strengths in recent seasons. The hope is now it can continue to be throughout the 24/25 season.
