Manchester City’s Rolls Royce is determined to improve after an impressive debut season

Manchester City’s Rolls Royce Josko Gvardiol had an outstanding debut season with the club last season. He played a pivotal role in City’s historic fourth consecutive Premier League title last season as he established himself as one of the premier left-backs in the Premier League. Heading into this season Gvardiol is determined to improve as a player. If the Croatian international does take his game to another level he could firmly establish himself as one of the premier defenders in world football this season.

Speaking with the official Manchester City podcast Josko Gvardiol explained that he wants to improve as a player. Manchester City’s Rolls Royce said that he is determined to be an even better player than he was during his first season at the club. Gvardiol explained: “If I start the season as the same Josko from last season then I wouldn’t be happy because I want to improve myself and get to the next level.

Gvardiol also explained that it took time for him to adjust to life at Manchester City last season. He added: “At the beginning of last season I had a period where I felt like it wasn’t the rhythm of my play, I needed more time to adapt, to feel comfortable. We all have this in this sport so I think I will be a new player and a new me. The only thing is I changed position. I’ve taken it as a challenge and I like to take new challenges to see if I’m ready for that. I just can’t wait to start the season.

If Manchester City’s Rolls Royce takes his game to another level this season he could become the world’s best defender by season’s end.

By the end of last season, Josko Gvardiol had firmly established himself as arguably the best left-back in the Premier League. As he adapted to Pep Guardiola’s demands, he became a key contributor to Manchester City. His ability on the ball became an underrated weapon in City’s possession game. Gvardiol was also solid defensively as he made the left-back role his own during the latter stages of last season. Heading into the 24/25 season Gvardiol has a solid base to launch into the new season.

If Manchester City’s Rolls Royce can improve as a player this season, City will have a world-beater on their hands. The potential and talent of Josko Gvardiol have been evident for a long time now. That was on full display last season. If his game does up go another level from what he showed during the second half of last season there won’t be many, if any, better defenders in world football than the Croatian international.

That is a high bar for Josko Gvardiol to climb this season. But given his talent and pedigree there is no reason why he can’t improve this season as a player. He has set himself that challenge based on his recent comments. It will now be interesting to see if he can pass his own goals and become the player he’s always appeared destined to become this season.
