A Brazilian winger continues to be linked with City but a move to the champions appears unlikely

It appears to be only a matter of time before Julian Alvarez completes his move to Atletico Madrid. Attention has now shifted as to how Manchester City will go about replacing the Argentinian international. One player who has once again been linked with a potential move to Manchester City in recent days is Brazilian winger Rodrygo. New reports have emerged that City may move for the Real Madrid star. But despite these new reports, it doesn’t appear likely that a City move for the Brazilian winger is a realistic option.

First of all, Harry Watkinson has reported for TeamTalk that Manchester City are considering a move for Rodrygo to replace Julian Alvarez. Furthermore, Watkinson goes on to report that Rodrygo has no intention of leaving Real Madrid this summer.

Secondly, Danny Rust and Dean Jones report for GIVEMESPORT that Real Madrid may offer City the opportunity to sign Rodrygo. Rust and Jones go on to report that Real Madrid now see an opportunity to offload Rodrygo to City. With the arrival of Kylian Mbappe and Endrick at the Bernabeu this summer, Real Madrid is well-stocked with attacking options. Furthermore, Rust and Jones add that Rodrygo is keen to fight for his place in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.

Rodrygo would be an immense addition to Pep Guardiola’s squad but a Manchester City move for the Brazilian winger appears unlikely.

There is no doubting the quality of Rodrygo. The Brazilian international has proven just how good and damaging a player he is during his time at Real Madrid. Manchester City and their fans know this all too well based on his heroics against Pep Guardiola’s side in the UEFA Champions League in recent years. On paper he would be almost be the ideal Julian Alvarez replacement. Rodrygo is a versatile player who can in a variety of roles up front. He also possesses the work rate alongside his undoubted quality to add something different to City’s squad. Despite this, a Manchester City move for the Brazilian winger appears unlikely.

As both new reports indicate there is no suggestion that Rodrygo wants to leave Real Madrid. That fact alone would appear to end any speculation that City will move for the Brazilian international. The idea of Rodrygo playing at the Etihad is an exciting one, but it doesn’t appear to be a realistic option at this stage of the transfer window. City is also well stocked for wingers, which is the position that Rodrygo does his best work.

The prospect of Rodrygo playing at Manchester City is an exciting one to consider. But as previously mentioned there is nothing to suggest that Rodrygo would fancy a move to City. That fact alone appears to end any realistic chances of City moving for the Brazilian winger.
