If Julian Alvarez departs Manchester City will finally have to hit the transfer market

This summer has been a quiet one for Manchester City. The arrival of Savinho has been the only signing of the summer for the world champions. But the champions may be forced to finally make a mark in the transfer window in the coming weeks. New reports indicate that Julian Alvarez is getting closer to completing a move to Atletico Madrid. If that move does materialize the champions will finally have to make a mark on the summer transfer window.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reported via X last night that Atletico Madrid has submitted an official offer to Manchester City for Julian Alvarez. In a separate report, Romano added that Atletico had offered Manchester City a €75 million package to sign Alvarez. Furthermore, Romano also reported that Atletico Madrid CEO Gil Marín has led the negotiations for Atletico.

Manchester City will have to hit the transfer market to replace Julian Alvarez.

While this summer has been relatively quiet for Manchester City the possibility has always been there that they could lose a key player. That now appears likely to be Julian Alvarez. If he completes a move to Atletico Madrid then the champions will have to swing into action in the transfer market. It seems unlikely that City wouldn’t replace such a key player this summer. It has always appeared to be a case of City waiting to make their mark on the transfer market now that opportunity looks to be presenting itself.

But how much of a mark Manchester City make on the transfer market remains to be seen. Pep Guardiola could provide a player like Oscar Bobb with more opportunities to impress next season. The Norwegian international impressed during City’s pre-season tour of the United States. But is he ready for a more prominent role for the world champions? If Pep Guardiola decides that he is the champions may seek a cheaper replacement for Alvarez, if one exists. But that alternative may not exist which would make it more likely for Manchester City to spend ‘big’ to replace Alvarez.

If Julian Alvarez departs Manchester City which appears more likely now it will seemingly force City into the transfer market. How big a mark they make depends on what type of player they seem necessary to replace what the Argentinian international offers.
