Across Manchester City’s pre-season tour of the United States, a host of City’s youngsters seized their opportunity to impress. One of those young players who impressed was Micah Hamilton. Hamilton showed last season during his first-team appearances that he was ready for regular first-team football. But it appeared to be unlikely that he would get that opportunity at Manchester City. Now a new report indicates that he could be set to sign for Middlesbrough. If that move does materialize Hamilton should get the opportunities he needs to further develop as a player.
Adam Leventhal and Sam Lee have reported for the Athletic that Middlesbrough are in advanced talks to sign Micah Hamilton. Furthermore, Leventhal and Lee further report that personal terms between Hamilton and Middlesbrough aren’t thought to be an issue and a medical has been scheduled. Lastly, Leventhal and Lee add that positive talks between the two clubs have taken place, which could see Hamilton complete a permanent move to Middlesbrough.
Micah Hamilton needs first-team football to develop and it is unlikely he will get that at Manchester City.
It became apparent during Manchester City’s pre-season tour of the United States that Micah Hamilton needs first-team football to further develop as a player. He showed during his pre-season appearances that he looks ready to regular first-team football. Unfortunately for Hamilton, there doesn’t appear to be a chance of that happening at Manchester City. That isn’t a knock on Hamilton’s talent he just plays a position that City are stocked in.
Hamilton can play through the middle or out wide. He is yet another versatile young attacking player in City’s possession. The problem for Micah Hamilton is there is a plethora of quality players in City’s squad who can play on a wing or through the middle. Oscar Bobb, Jack Grealish, Jeremy Doku, Savinho, Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne all stand in the way of Hamilton getting first-team opportunities at City. It doesn’t look likely that Hamilton could force his way past any of those players to play regularly for City. A move to a club like Middlesbrough would allow Hamilton to get the first-team opportunities he needs to develop his game. Based on the Athletic’s new report that now appears to be a real possibility.
A permanent move to Middlesbrough seems to be the best move for Micah Hamilton and Manchester City. It would allow Hamilton to play regularly and the champions would pick up another handy transfer fee if the move does materialize. That seems to be the best option for both parties before the transfer window closes.
