What could Manchester City do in the remaining weeks of the transfer window?

So far this summer it has been a quiet summer transfer window for Manchester City. The champions have only made one signing this summer, albeit an exciting one. Brazilian international Savinho has arrived at the club from Troyes. On the departure front Sergio Gomez has been the highest profile player to leave the club. While it has been a quiet window so far Manchester City will still be looking to strengthen their squad if the opportunity arises. With that in mind what could City do for the remainder of the summer? Here is a look at what could happen in the remaining weeks of the transfer window.

What areas need strengthening in the Manchester City squad and will they address them?

A look at the Manchester City squad shows that there are very few areas of weakness in Pep Guardiola’s squad. As it stands currently the champions will enter the 24/25 season with the majority of last season’s squad intact plus the addition of Savinho. That makes the champions one of the favourites to claim a fifth consecutive Premier League title and challenge on all fronts next season. But there does appear to be one area of concern with Manchester City’s squad that does require addressing this summer.

Manchester City’s reliance on Rodri is well known. The workload that Rodri carries for the champions has been well documented. It would appear that City needs a player who can come in a provide cover for their most important player. But it is unlikely that City would sign a player who would essentially settle for being a backup. It would appear that a player who can provide cover and support for Rodri while also adding to City’s squad is a must. This summer’s pre-season tour of the United States has shown that City have a host of young players on the rise who could play that role in time. Nico O’Reilly is the first that comes to mind. But a more experienced player would aid Pep Guardiola’s squad greatly.

Another midfielder appears to be Manchester City’s only real area of concern for the remainder of the transfer window. Barring any major departures it looks that Pep Guardiola will have the majority of his squad that has served him so well at his disposal next season.

Players that could potentially depart the club.

At the beginning of the summer it did appear that a host of Manchester City’s key players could leave the club. But that doesn’t appear to be the case in the remaining weeks of the transfer window. Kevin De Bruyne, Ederson and Bernardo Silva all look set to be a part of Pep Guardiola’s squad next season. That is positive news for Manchester City. However there is one key player that could depart in the remaining weeks of the transfer window.

The biggest name player that could leave City is Julian Alvarez. This week has seen the Argentinian international and Pep Guardiola both discuss his future at the club. It appears that a decision on his future will be made after Argentina’s participation at the Paris Olympics is over. If he decides to leave that will force City’s hand in the transfer market. So that appears to be the biggest potential departure form the champions this summer.

There will also likely be the departures of two fringe players for the champions to manage. It is expected that Kalvin Phillips and Joao Cancelo will leave the club this month. Outside of that there will likely be several City youngsters who will head out on loan for next season. Barring any surprise departures that appears to be the players who could potentially leave Manchester City in the coming weeks.

Summary.

If Manchester City can land a quality midfielder in the coming weeks of the transfer window that would complete a successful summer transfer window for the champions. There will be several departures but if Julian Alvarez remains at City for next season there doesn’t look to be any major departures from the champions on the cards.

While it has been a quiet summer transfer window for Manchester City it has the potential to be a key one once again for the world champions. What happens in the coming weeks will dictate that and it will be interesting to see what happens in the coming weeks.
