Over recent seasons Manchester City have sent a plethora of young players out on loan across England and Europe. This practice allows some of City’s brightest young prospects to learn what it takes at the professional level while developing their games with first-team opportunities. Now it appears that promising Manchester City midfielder Jacob Wright is set to follow a similar path this season.
Pete O’Rourke has reported for footballinsider247.com that Jacob Wright has agreed a loan move to Peterborough United for this season. O’Rourke further reports that the promising City midfielder is set for his first taste of regular first-team football with Peterborough United. Furthermore, O’Rourke adds that several clubs were interested in securing Jacob Wright’s services this season. But based on O’Rourke’s report it appears that Peterborough United have won the race the secure his services for next season.
Jacob Wright appears to have the opportunity to further develop during the 24/25 season.
It would be a positive for Jacob Wright to play regular first-team football next season. During his time in City’s academy he has shown that he has the talent to succeed. Wright looks to be the type of midfielder that could thrive at Manchester City. What he needs now is regular first-team football to further his development. The hope is that in time he can develop into a player that could help provide support for Rodri. But to get to that point the promising City midfielder needs first-team football. Now it appears that he will get that opportunity.
Peterborough United could be the ideal club for Wright to get regular first-team minutes. The Posh have a good working relationship with Manchester City and Jadel Katongo shined for them last season. Katongo seized his opportunity to shine at Peterborough and became an important player for them last season. He has subsequently returned to Manchester City as a more mature player which has been evident during City’s pre-season tour of the United States. The hope is Jacob Wright can do the same if the reported loan move to Peterborough United does materialize.
Jacob Wright appears set to get the first-team opportunities he needs next season based on Pete O’Rourke’s new report. It will be interesting to track his progress this season if his loan move to Peterborough United is made official. If he can follow in Jadel Katongo’s footsteps that will be good news for Manchester City.
